God’s Greatness

O Lord my God, how great you are! You are dressed in a robe of light. You stretch out the starry curtain of the heavens.
Psalms 104:1-2

The psalmist begins this psalm with a declaration of God's greatness. He calls God "Lord" and "God," which are both titles of reverence and respect. The psalmist then uses two images to describe God's majesty: a robe of light and a starry curtain.

Imagine a king dressed in a robe of light. The light reflects off of the robe, making the king appear even more majestic and powerful. In the same way, the psalmist is imagining God dressed in a robe of light. This image conveys God's brilliance and glory.

The psalmist then imagines God stretching out the starry curtain of the heavens. The stars are so vast and numerous that they are beyond human comprehension. Yet, the psalmist says that God simply stretched them out like a curtain. This image conveys God's power and authority over creation.

When we read these two verses together, we get a sense of the psalmist's awe and wonder at God. The psalmist is marveling at God's greatness, beauty, and power. He is also expressing his gratitude to God for creating such a magnificent universe.

This psalm is a reminder that God is the creator and sustainer of all things. He is the one who gives us the sun, the moon, and the stars. He is the one who created the earth and all of its creatures. And he is the one who loves us and cares for us.

As we meditate on these two verses, let us join the psalmist in praising God for his greatness. Let us also express our gratitude to God for his creation and for his love for us.
