A Call to Action

The Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
Micah‬ ‭6:8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Micah 6:8 is a powerful verse that summarizes the essence of what it means to follow God. In just a few words, the prophetMicah captures the three essential elements of a godly life:

  • To do what is right - This means to act justly and fairly in all our dealings with others. It means standing up for what is right, even when it is difficult. It means defending the oppressed and vulnerable.
  • To love mercy - Mercy is compassion and kindness shown to those who are suffering or in need. It is the willingness to forgive and give second chances. It is the desire to see others healed and restored.
  • To walk humbly with your God - Humility is the opposite of pride. It is the recognition that we are dependent on God and that we need his help in all things. It is the willingness to submit to his will and to follow his leading.

These three elements are interconnected. When we do what is right, we are showing mercy to others. And when we walk humbly with God, we are more likely to do what is right and to love mercy.

Micah 6:8 is a challenge to all of us who claim to follow God. It is a call to live a life that is characterized by justice, mercy, and humility. It is a call to be people who make a difference in the world.

Here are some specific ways that we can live out Micah 6:8 in our lives today:

  • To do what is right: We can stand up for what is right in our workplaces, our schools, and our communities. We can speak out against injustice and oppression. We can support organizations that are working to make the world a more just place.
  • To love mercy: We can be compassionate and kind to those who are suffering. We can forgive those who have wronged us. We can give second chances to those who have made mistakes. We can volunteer our time and resources to help those in need.
  • To walk humbly with your God: We can spend time in prayer and Bible study, getting to know God better. We can submit to his will and follow his leading in our lives. We can serve others in his name.

Micah 6:8 is a timeless verse that provides us with a clear roadmap for living a godly life. When we follow its teachings, we are making the world a better place and bringing glory to God.

In summary:

  • God has shown us what is good. We do not have to guess what God wants of us. He has made his will clear in his Word.
  • God requires us to do what is right. This means acting justly and fairly in all our dealings with others.
  • God requires us to love mercy. This means showing compassion and kindness to those who are suffering or in need.
  • God requires us to walk humbly with him. This means recognizing that we are dependent on him and that we need his help in all things.
  • These three elements are interconnected. When we do what is right, we are showing mercy to others. And when we walk humbly with God, we are more likely to do what is right and to love mercy.

In short, God wants us to be people who are just, merciful, and humble.
