The Gift of Time

Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.

Psalms 90:12 NLT

This is a powerful request, and one that we would all do well to consider.

Life is short. We all know this, but it is easy to forget in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We get caught up in our work, our relationships, our hobbies, and we lose sight of the fact that our time on this earth is limited.

When we realize the brevity of life, it can have a profound impact on the way we live. We become more mindful of our choices, more grateful for the time we have, and more focused on what is truly important. We also become more aware of our mortality, which can lead to a deeper appreciation for life and a greater sense of urgency to live it to the fullest.

So how can we teach ourselves to realize the brevity of life? Here are a few tips:

• Spend time with people who are older than you. Talking to people who have lived longer than us can help us to gain a perspective on our own mortality. They can also teach us about the importance of living a meaningful life.

• Meditate or pray. Meditation and prayer can help us to quiet our minds and become more aware of the present moment. This can help us to appreciate the preciousness of life and to live more mindfully.

• Take time for nature. Spending time in nature can help us to connect with something larger than ourselves and to feel a sense of awe and wonder. This can help us to put our own lives in perspective and to appreciate the gift of life.

• Do things that make you happy. When we are doing things that we love, we are more likely to feel grateful for our lives and to live them to the fullest. So make sure to make time for the things that bring you joy.

Realizing the brevity of life is not always easy, but it is a gift. It can help us to live our lives more meaningfully and to make the most of every moment. So let us ask God to teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.

In addition to the tips above, here are some other ways to realize the brevity of life:

• Keep a journal. Writing about your thoughts and feelings can help you to reflect on your life and to appreciate the time you have.

• Set goals. Having goals gives you something to strive for and can help you to live a more purposeful life.

• Help others. Helping others is a great way to connect with your community and to make a difference in the world.

• Live in the present moment. One of the best ways to realize the brevity of life is to simply be present in the moment. This means paying attention to what is happening right now and not dwelling on the past or worrying about the future.

Realizing the brevity of life is a journey, not a destination. It is something that we need to keep working at every day. But if we are willing to put in the effort, it can be a life-changing experience.

In summary:

• Life is short.

• We can realize the brevity of life by spending time with older people, meditating or praying, taking time for nature, and doing things that make us happy.

• Realizing the brevity of life can help us to live our lives more meaningfully and to make the most of every moment.

• Other ways to realize the brevity of life include keeping a journal, setting goals, helping others, and living in the present moment.

• Realizing the brevity of life is a journey, not a destination.
